About

Who We Are

Equally Abled is a community-focused charity dedicated to empowering young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to live fulfilling, connected and independent lives. We believe that every young person deserves the opportunity to be heard, valued and included, regardless of their abilities or the challenges they may face.

Founded by individuals with lived experience of disability, caring responsibilities and the barriers often faced by SEND young people and their families, Equally Abled was created to make a real difference within our local communities. Our trustees, volunteers and supporters bring a wealth of personal and professional experience, helping us design services and opportunities that genuinely meet the needs of the people we support.

Since our formation, we have grown from a small community initiative into a recognised and respected charity, providing social opportunities, life skills development, volunteering programmes, wellbeing activities and community engagement projects. Through these activities, we help young people build confidence, develop new skills, make lasting friendships and achieve greater independence.

At the heart of everything we do is a commitment to inclusion. We work alongside young people, families, carers, schools, local organisations and community partners to create welcoming spaces where everyone feels they belong. We celebrate individual strengths, encourage participation, and support young people to have a voice in shaping the opportunities available to them.

As we continue to grow, our ambition is to reach more young people, expand our programmes and create even greater opportunities for SEND young people to thrive. Together with our supporters, volunteers and partners, we are building a future where barriers are reduced, potential is recognised, and every young person has the chance to achieve their goals and contribute positively to their community.

Together, we are creating a more inclusive future—one where ability is celebrated, opportunities are accessible, and everyone has the chance to succeed.

Our Vision

At Equally Abled, we envision a future where every young person with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) has the opportunity to thrive, participate fully in their community, and achieve their aspirations without barriers.

We believe that disability should never limit opportunity. Our vision is to create inclusive, welcoming environments where young people feel valued, respected and empowered to develop confidence, independence and meaningful connections. We want every individual to have access to the support, experiences and opportunities they need to reach their full potential.

Through collaboration with young people, families, volunteers, community organisations and local partners, we aim to challenge stereotypes, promote inclusion and create lasting positive change. We are committed to building stronger communities where diversity is celebrated, abilities are recognised, and everyone has a sense of belonging.

As we continue to grow, our ambition is to expand opportunities for social inclusion, personal development, volunteering, employability, wellbeing and community participation. By listening to the voices of the young people we support, we strive to create a future where every individual can live with confidence, purpose and independence.

Together, we are working towards a more inclusive society where everyone is valued for who they are and empowered to contribute in their own unique way.
